Responsibilities
- Create advanced fiber optic connectors with multi-ferrule blind mating systems for high-density interconnects between enclosures and cables
- Design mechanical float mechanisms in backplanes to enable automatic alignment of multi-ferrule arrays during blind coupling, accommodating production variances
- Develop precise alignment solutions for multi-fiber ferrules using guide pins, centering structures, and flexible components to ensure reliable blind mating
- Assess and select high-performance metals and engineered polymers for optical connectors, prioritizing dimensional consistency and resistance to wear
- Invent flexible mechanical systems that support alignment, connection, and stress management without compromising optical accuracy
- Plan and carry out rigorous testing for static and dynamic loads, fatigue endurance, and environmental resilience
- Design advanced latching and retention mechanisms that enhance connection reliability, ease of use, and production efficiency
- Engineer strain relief components that safeguard fiber optics under mechanical stress while preserving alignment integrity
- Conduct static and dynamic stress evaluations on connector systems, including finite element analysis of complex load conditions
- Design connector architectures compatible with automated manufacturing while sustaining sub-micron alignment precision
- Lead fast-turnaround prototyping from initial concept to finalized production designs using modern fabrication methods
- Establish detailed mechanical testing procedures to validate connector performance, longevity, and manufacturing consistency
- Collaborate with optical, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams to ensure designs support manufacturability and optical functionality
