Lead Photonics Systems Process Engineer
Role Overview
Lead the design and implementation of manufacturing processes for next-generation Co-packaged Optics (CPO) systems within a high-performance electronics manufacturing services environment. This role integrates expertise in micro-electronics, photonic packaging, and wireline systems to develop robust, scalable production flows across global factories. You will collaborate directly with client teams and internal engineering groups to translate product requirements into manufacturable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and validate process flows for CPO systems through structured experimentation and data-driven optimization.
- Define manufacturing control points and interim specifications based on full process flow analysis and packaging constraints.
- Lead new product introduction (NPI) and production ramp activities at manufacturing sites, ensuring smooth technology transfer.
- Train and mentor local engineering personnel to sustain and improve manufacturing operations post-ramp.
- Provide ongoing technical support to factory teams, troubleshooting process deviations and yield challenges.
- Engage early with clients to capture design and process requirements, ensuring manufacturability from concept to volume production.
- Deliver Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) guidance tailored to photonic systems.
- Document process requirements, specifications, and procedures with clarity and precision.
- Support the creation of work instructions and visual aids, ensuring alignment with engineering standards.
- Monitor advancements in photonic packaging, fiber-optic interconnects, and surface mount technology to inform process improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, materials science, chemistry, or a related STEM field.
- Minimum of six years of hands-on experience in photonic packaging, transceiver assembly, or photonic system manufacturing within the datacom or telecom sector.
- Proven experience in cleanroom environments, optical test setup, and laser safety protocols.
- Strong background in photonic package design, process development, and system-level testing.
- Knowledge of ASIC and photonic device testing methodologies.
- Ability to lead R&D-style process development with a structured, analytical approach.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and a sense of ownership over product outcomes.
- Willingness to travel up to 70%, including international destinations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline.
- Experience in high-volume manufacturing of photonic components or systems.
- Direct involvement in NPI and volume ramp phases for photonic technologies.
