As an Embedded Perception Engineer, you will develop and maintain perception systems that enable autonomous surface vessels to operate safely and effectively in complex maritime conditions. Your work will span the full lifecycle of perception development—from model design and sensor integration to embedded deployment and field performance analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of end-to-end perception pipelines for real-time maritime applications
- Train and refine deep learning models such as ViT, CLIP, and SAM for object detection, classification, and tracking
- Combine inputs from cameras, radar, and lidar into coherent situational awareness outputs
- Develop and validate low-level drivers to ensure reliable sensor data acquisition
- Optimize inference performance on edge hardware using quantization, pruning, and runtime tools like TensorRT and ONNX Runtime
- Deploy models at scale using NVIDIA Triton Inference Server
- Collaborate with hardware and autonomy teams to integrate perception outputs into broader mission systems
- Monitor system health in operational environments and lead root cause analysis for performance issues
- Translate field feedback into technical improvements in coordination with operators and engineering teams
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Machine Learning, or a related discipline, and have at least three years of hands-on experience building and deploying computer vision systems in Linux environments using C++ and Python.
Required expertise includes deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, experience with large vision models, sensor fusion across modalities, and inference tooling like NVIDIA Triton or TensorRT. A strong systems-level understanding and the ability to navigate complex codebases are essential. U.S. Citizenship is required due to security clearance requirements.
Preferred Background
- Experience deploying models on embedded platforms such as Jetson or FPGA
- Familiarity with maritime or aerial sensing environments
- Background in real-time or safety-critical systems
- Knowledge of autonomy frameworks including ROS2 or MOOS-IvP
- Understanding of military systems or defense acquisition processes
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role offering flexibility in work location with support for remote setups through a home office stipend. The position includes an unlimited paid time off policy with a mandatory minimum of two weeks annually.
Benefits
- Full employer-paid health, dental, and vision coverage for employees and families
- Employer-paid life insurance
- 401k plan with company match
- Equity compensation package
- Monthly health and wellness stipend
- 16 weeks of paid parental leave
- Global Entry reimbursement
