Slip Robotics is hiring a Robotics Hardware Integration Engineer

About the Role

As a Robotics Hardware Integration Engineer, you'll play a central role in ensuring that robot hardware and software function as a unified system. You'll work directly with sensors such as LiDAR, cameras, IMUs, and encoders, as well as actuators including motor controllers and hydraulic systems, developing and maintaining low-level drivers that enable reliable operation in demanding logistics environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain device drivers in C++ and Python for Linux-based robotic platforms
  • Own and optimize communication layers using CAN bus, EtherCAT, serial interfaces, and I2C/SPI protocols
  • Create hardware abstraction layers that provide stable, well-documented interfaces to software teams
  • Lead integration of new hardware components—from selection and bring-up to calibration and validation
  • Monitor system health metrics including power consumption, thermal performance, and fault diagnostics
  • Develop and maintain AWS IoT Greengrass components for over-the-air updates, telemetry, and remote device management
  • Support fielded robots by diagnosing and resolving hardware-software interface issues
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineering teams during design reviews to ensure manufacturability and integration readiness
  • Configure and manage Linux environments for robotics compute systems
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, including hardware-in-the-loop testing frameworks

Qualifications

You bring at least five years of hands-on experience integrating hardware and software in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or industrial automation systems. You're fluent in C++ and Python on Linux, and you have direct experience writing drivers for real-world robotic hardware.

Proficiency with communication protocols such as CAN, EtherCAT, RS-232/485, I2C, and SPI is essential. You’ve worked with ROS or ROS 2 to develop hardware interface nodes and system integrations. Experience with AWS IoT Core or Greengrass for edge device management is highly valued.

You can read schematics and datasheets confidently and work effectively alongside electrical engineers. You’re skilled in using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and protocol analyzers to debug hardware issues. Strong communication skills and cross-functional collaboration experience are key to success in this role.

Technology Environment

Our stack includes C++, Python, Linux, ROS and ROS 2, CAN bus, EtherCAT, RS-232, RS-485, I2C, SPI, AWS IoT Core, AWS IoT Greengrass, Linux device drivers, hardware abstraction layers, CI/CD pipelines, and hardware-in-the-loop testing setups.

Why This Role?

This is not a research position—these robots are already operating in production. You’ll join a lean, high-impact team where your contributions directly shape the performance and reliability of deployed systems. The company offers competitive compensation with equity, comprehensive health benefits, and a flexible time-off policy. Your work will have immediate visibility and influence on real-world robotics applications.
