Alstom is hiring a Mechanical System Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Define the standard architectures for one or more mechanical train subsystems, hereafter referred to as System Architecture Areas (SAA), establishing the relevant technical referentials and providing technical support to projects (deployment, tailoring of standard solutions, problem solving).
  • Translate these architectures at project level, leading the engineering activities associated with the assigned SAA and coordinating the development and technical procurement of mechanical subsystems.
  • The role operates using Requirements Engineering methodology, ensuring consistency, traceability, and technical quality across the entire subsystem perimeter.
  • Develop technical requirements based on reference documents (Standards, Certification, Safety, Platform, Customer).
  • Allocate requirements to the various subsystems and develop transversal requirements in collaboration with domain specialists.
  • Define the train system architecture, operating modes, and associated functionalities.
  • Ensure consistency and compatibility among all subsystem specifications.
  • Prepare subsystem specifications and, when required, the architectural description in line with the overall system architecture.
  • Complete the “Entry connector” to query the standard product catalogue.
  • For non-catalogue products, in coordination with the central standardization body: Draft the preliminary technical specification during the bid phase.
  • Prepare the final technical specification for supplier consultation and manage technical interactions until design freeze.
  • Lead the technical relationship with suppliers, monitoring commitments on cost, schedule, quality, risks, and validation activities.
  • Participate in technical Design Reviews.
  • Support the TPM (Technical Project Manager) in defining the applicable train configuration.
  • Coordinate interfaces, performance aspects, and technical issue resolution among the different engineering teams during the detailed design phase.
  • Participate in technical meetings with the customer upon request from project management.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings and functional schematics.
  • Familiarity with technical procurement processes and supplier management.
  • Very good written and spoken English proficiency.

Nice to Have

  • Familiarity with railway mechanical systems.
  • Experience in System Engineering and Requirements Management (DOORS, Polarion, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of railway standards (EN, IEC, RAMS regulations, safety standards).
  • Expertise in system architectures and subsystem interface management.
