Role Overview
As the Lead Database Administrator, you will lead the design, maintenance, and optimization of critical database systems, ensuring high availability, security, and performance across hybrid environments. You'll work closely with development and product teams to support scalable solutions and guide strategic decisions around data infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance database performance for core applications
- Monitor, diagnose, and resolve complex database issues to maintain system stability
- Manage backup, recovery, and failover procedures to safeguard data integrity
- Enforce strict access controls and security policies to protect sensitive information
- Perform in-depth performance tuning and routine maintenance to improve efficiency
- Lead database deployments, version upgrades, and patching with minimal service disruption
- Document standards, processes, and system configurations for consistency and compliance
- Partner with Product Development to identify bottlenecks and recommend architectural improvements
- Design forward-looking database strategies that support growth and evolving technology needs
- Develop and test disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity
- Set performance benchmarks and conduct regular audits to maintain system health
- Oversee database-related costs, ensuring efficient use of cloud and on-prem resources
Required Qualifications
- 12+ years of hands-on experience with database technologies, including SQL Server
- Proven track record managing databases on Azure and AWS RDS, including DocumentDB
- Experience leading data migration initiatives while preserving data accuracy
- Strong ability to analyze and optimize complex SQL queries
- Scripting proficiency in any programming language
- Expertise in diagnosing and resolving database issues using OS and DB tools
- Deep knowledge of performance bottleneck identification and resolution
- Strong background in SQL performance optimization
- Hands-on experience with database installation, clustering, replication, patching, and monitoring
- Thorough understanding of backup and recovery models
- Experience tuning databases across hardware and software layers
- Familiarity with database design best practices
- Working knowledge of Git, code versioning, branching strategies, and Terraform
- Excellent communication skills and experience mentoring junior DBAs
- Active participation in strategic planning for database infrastructure
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience administering Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MongoDB
