AXS is hiring a Database Engineer II

About the Role

Role Overview

As a Database Engineer II, you will play a key role in building and maintaining robust database infrastructure that powers our digital products. You'll be responsible for designing, deploying, and optimizing both relational and non-relational databases in cloud environments, ensuring they are secure, highly available, and performant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage database systems including PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, Aurora, and MongoDB
  • Integrate database changes into automated CI/CD pipelines using tools like Liquibase, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps
  • Write and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible for repeatable, reliable provisioning
  • Set up monitoring, alerting, and logging frameworks to proactively detect and resolve performance or security issues
  • Optimize query performance through indexing, execution plan analysis, and schema tuning
  • Implement and maintain high availability, replication, backup, and disaster recovery solutions
  • Collaborate with developers, SREs, and DevOps teams to ensure seamless and secure application integration
  • Enforce data security policies including encryption at rest and in transit, key management via AWS KMS, and access controls
  • Automate routine maintenance tasks to improve system reliability and reduce manual effort
  • Lead investigations into complex production incidents and drive resolution through root cause analysis

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Minimum of 5 years in database engineering or administration, with at least 3 years in cloud or DevOps-focused environments
  • Deep experience with at least one major database platform (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, Aurora) and working knowledge of others
  • Proven experience with CI/CD tools such as Liquibase, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Strong familiarity with cloud platforms—AWS preferred, with Azure or GCP as a plus
  • Understanding of database encryption, auditing, and compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with Kafka clusters and event-driven data architectures
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a track record of performance tuning in production systems

Technology Environment

Our stack includes Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Amazon Aurora, MongoDB, Liquibase, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, AWS, Azure, GCP, and Kafka.
