About the Role
The Lead Data Engineer will oversee the development and maintenance of data infrastructure, lead engineering efforts, and ensure scalable, efficient data solutions are in place to support business and analytical needs across distributed systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of data pipelines and storage solutions
- Architect scalable and secure data infrastructure on cloud platforms
- Mentor and guide junior engineers in best practices and technical execution
- Collaborate with analytics, data science, and product teams to define data needs
- Ensure data quality, reliability, and accessibility across systems
- Evaluate and integrate new data technologies and tools
- Drive automation of data workflows and monitoring processes
- Manage data modeling and database schema design
- Support compliance with data governance and privacy standards
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex data engineering issues
- Lead code reviews and enforce engineering standards
- Optimize data systems for performance and cost efficiency
- Develop and maintain technical documentation
- Coordinate with stakeholders to align data strategy with business goals
- Implement data security and access controls
- Work with streaming and batch data processing frameworks
- Utilize infrastructure-as-code practices for deployment
- Integrate data from multiple sources into centralized repositories
- Support migration of on-premise systems to cloud environments
- Promote reusability and modularity in data architecture
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree in a technical discipline
- Experience with real-time data streaming architectures
- Familiarity with machine learning pipelines
- Knowledge of data mesh or data fabric concepts
- Experience in regulated industries such as finance or healthcare
- Contributions to open-source data projects
- Certifications in cloud or data engineering domains
- Public speaking or conference presentation experience
- Experience with Terraform or similar IaC tools
- Background in DevOps practices for data platforms
