Role Overview
As an IoT Project Engineer focused on hardware and connectivity, you'll be responsible for ensuring the reliable performance of onboard data systems used in maritime operations. Your work will bridge hardware, network infrastructure, and data collection, ensuring systems function effectively from workshop to vessel deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and configure hardware kits for new IoT implementations
- Conduct system builds and pre-deployment testing in the workshop, including Factory Acceptance Tests
- Provide remote support during field installations in collaboration with service engineers
- Monitor active systems on vessels and respond to performance deviations
- Diagnose technical faults and implement lasting solutions
- Maintain secure and stable remote access to onboard equipment
- Evaluate new sensor technologies and hardware setups through structured testing
- Coordinate with project managers, logistics, and data engineering teams to align technical execution with project goals
Qualifications
You have a technical education at MBO+ or HBO level in fields such as electrical engineering, mechatronics, maritime technology, or IT. Practical experience with hardware systems, installations, or industrial equipment is essential. You understand networking fundamentals including IP addressing, routers, and remote connectivity solutions.
You approach problems methodically, enjoy diagnosing technical issues, and apply analytical thinking to find root causes. Your work is well-organized, with attention to testing procedures, documentation, and checklists. You communicate clearly in both Dutch and English.
Preferred Background
- Experience in maritime or offshore environments
- Familiarity with IoT platforms, sensor integration, or data acquisition systems
- Working knowledge of Linux operating systems and command-line tools
- Interest in data flows or software interactions within hardware systems
Technical Environment
You'll work with IP-based networking infrastructure, industrial routers, secure remote access protocols, Linux systems, and command-line interfaces.
Work Model
This is a hybrid role, allowing approximately two days per week of remote work. The position involves occasional travel for on-site support and collaboration.
