Role Overview

As a Field Service Engineer, you'll ensure laboratory instruments operate safely and efficiently through expert installation, maintenance, and repair. Working directly with clients across commercial, academic, and government sectors, you'll uphold technical standards while supporting compliance and safety protocols. This role blends hands-on technical work with customer collaboration in lab environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, service, validate, and troubleshoot analytical instruments in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Engage with customers to assess needs, deliver training, and recommend service enhancements.
  • Identify opportunities for service expansion, including billable repairs, upgrades, and consumables.
  • Maintain accurate records of service activities, inventory, and equipment logs.
  • Report technical issues and suggest product improvements through formal quality channels.
  • Complete required training and comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Manage administrative duties such as time tracking, documentation, and follow-up reporting.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following education and experience combinations:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant technical or scientific field plus 3 years of hands-on equipment repair experience.
  • Associate degree in a related discipline plus 5 years of direct repair experience.
  • High School Diploma with at least 7 years of documented experience repairing lab instruments.

Additional requirements include:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, follow procedures, and document work accurately.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications including Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Capacity to work safely in lab settings with exposure to controlled substances, extreme temperatures, and protective equipment requirements.
  • Physical ability to bend, reach, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, and remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Visual acuity for close-range detail work, color differentiation, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with analytical instrumentation and instrument control software.
  • Vendor certification on relevant equipment platforms.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and site-specific protocols.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 50% by car or air.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position based in Salt Lake City, UT, with flexibility for remote work and frequent onsite visits to client laboratories. Travel within the region is expected and may vary based on customer demand. Field work may require respiratory protection and medical clearance depending on site requirements.

Compensation

Salary range: $58,760 to $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
