About the Role

Role Overview

As a Traveling Field Technician, you’ll be responsible for deploying and maintaining integrated camera and solar-powered systems at various locations. This position splits time evenly between new installations and ongoing service, requiring frequent travel and hands-on technical work in outdoor environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and service support structures, solar arrays, battery units, and intelligent camera systems at customer sites
  • Set poles according to engineering specs, including digging post holes and securing foundations
  • Mount and align license plate recognition (LPR) cameras with pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) capabilities
  • Perform work on public and private roadways, often at elevations up to 30 feet using ladders or bucket trucks
  • Use power and hand tools to assemble, repair, and maintain equipment
  • Diagnose and fix minor issues with underground wiring or irrigation lines near installation zones
  • Operate company vehicles and tow trailers to transport gear and support mobile units
  • Conduct site assessments with clients to determine optimal placement and configuration
  • Review and follow traffic control and permitting plans to ensure compliant installations
  • Log work progress, upload photos, and manage inventory using a mobile field application
  • Adapt to changing schedules with short notice while maintaining safety and quality standards

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as climbing, standing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Proven experience driving trucks and towing trailers safely
  • Minimum age of 21 with a valid driver’s license
  • Basic proficiency with mobile apps and willingness to learn new software platforms
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently across diverse job settings
  • Flexible and reliable, with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Preferred Background

  • Prior experience in construction, electrical work, or low-voltage systems
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and power tools

Tools & Equipment

Technicians use LPR and PTZ cameras, solar panels, battery systems, power and hand tools, ladders, bucket trucks, and company-provided Sprinter vans with fuel cards.

Work Environment

This role requires approximately 50% travel, typically involving 1–2 weeks on the road per month. Work is conducted Monday through Friday in the field, with occasional Saturday assignments. The position demands comfort with heights, outdoor conditions, and variable scheduling.

  • Annual salary range: $55,000 – $65,000, plus overtime pay
