We are looking for a detail-focused Tax Accountant to join our finance team in a fully remote capacity. In this role, you will oversee comprehensive tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring accurate and timely filings for federal, state, and international obligations. You'll work extensively with income tax, sales and use tax, and foreign VAT/GST requirements, supporting a growing organization dedicated to advancing arts education.
Key Responsibilities
- Collect and assess revenue and sales tax data from multiple business locations nationwide
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax filings using AvaTax
- Perform monthly reconciliations of sales and use tax payable accounts
- Administer and maintain the Avalara platform to ensure correct tax calculations and reporting
- Manage state and local tax registrations, including setup and ongoing maintenance
- Support external auditors by providing necessary financial data for Forms 1065 and 1120
- Monitor federal and state income tax correspondence, including extension payments
- Calculate and reconcile deferred tax assets and liabilities for C-Corp entities
- Serve as the main contact for auditors on all tax-related matters
- Prepare and file international tax reports, including VAT and GST filings
- Reconcile foreign tax-related balance sheet accounts
- Organize and file business personal property tax returns across all locations
- Help refine internal systems and processes to scale with organizational growth
- Provide back-office tax support across the organization as needed
- Identify ways to streamline workflows and reduce manual effort in tax operations
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a business degree with a focus in Accounting or Tax and have 3–5 years of relevant experience. Proficiency in balance sheet reconciliations and hands-on experience managing sales tax and business personal property tax filings are essential. You must be highly organized, accurate, and capable of managing multiple deadlines efficiently.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, along with the ability to exercise sound judgment in uncertain situations. We value team players who collaborate well across departments and are comfortable building processes from the ground up in a fast-evolving environment.
Preferred candidates will have familiarity with international tax systems such as UK VAT, Canadian GST, or HST.

The role utilizes Avalara for tax automation and NetSuite as the core financial system.
Compensation and Benefits
This position offers an annual salary range of $80,000 to $100,000. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, life and AD&D coverage, voluntary benefit options, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan with employer matching.
