Flock Safety is hiring a Staff Systems Engineer

About the Role

Shape the future of multidisciplinary systems development by leading systems engineering efforts in a fast-moving environment. As a Staff Systems Engineer, you will establish robust frameworks for requirements definition, architectural validation, and end-to-end traceability across complex hardware and software platforms. Your work will ensure that ambitious product visions are grounded in executable, testable, and scalable technical foundations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop precise, verifiable system requirements and functional specifications for integrated hardware, software, and firmware solutions.
  • Design and implement system-level validation strategies that confirm performance, reliability, and compliance with stakeholder needs.
  • Build scalable documentation practices that support both manual and automated testing workflows and ensure full requirements traceability.
  • Review system architectures and product specifications to detect technical gaps, operational risks, and unclear success criteria.
  • Act as a technical liaison between Product and Engineering teams, ensuring shared understanding of system behavior and acceptance criteria.

What You Bring

  • 12 or more years of systems engineering experience, with deep involvement across the full development lifecycle—from concept through deployment.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Proven ability to write clear Engineering Requirements Documents (ERDs) and break down complex capabilities into actionable components.
  • Experience evaluating trade-offs in tightly coupled systems while coordinating with distributed engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with Agile and V-model methodologies, particularly in verification and validation contexts.
  • Background in electro-mechanical or robotic systems with integrated development cycles.

Preferred Expertise

  • Programming experience in C, C++, Rust, or Python.
  • Hands-on use of requirements management tools such as Jama or DOORS, including change control and traceability.
  • Experience with data monitoring platforms like Grafana or Sigma to evaluate system performance.
  • Knowledge of test management systems such as Qase, including requirement-to-test traceability.
  • Exposure to Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) development or operations.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role based in Atlanta, Georgia. Candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to Georgia. The team values ownership, collaboration, and solving difficult technical challenges with clarity and purpose. Work is guided by urgency, mutual respect, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Benefits & Support

  • Flexible PTO with no accrual cap, plus 11 company-recognized holidays.
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage, with employer-matched HSA contributions.
  • 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave; birthing parents receive additional recovery time.
  • Comprehensive family support through Maven, including up to $50,000 for fertility, adoption, or surrogacy.
  • Mental health resources via Spring Health, offering therapy, coaching, and digital tools.
  • Caregiver assistance through Cariloop and tax guidance on equity through Carta.
  • Employee Resource Groups focused on inclusion and community: Women of Flock, Flock Proud, LEOs, and Melanin Motion.
  • Monthly $150 work-from-home stipend, $750 one-time home office setup allowance, and $300 annual productivity benefit for learning or wellness platforms.

Compensation

The base salary range is $200,000 to $230,000, determined by experience, education, and market factors. The package includes stock options and may vary based on individual qualifications. All employment decisions are made without regard to race, gender, religion, or other protected characteristics.
