Canva is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to design, build, and evolve the core components of our Quality Platform. You will craft frameworks and tools that empower thousands of Canva engineers to test features effectively while tackling complex, high-stakes technical problems at massive scale.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and evolve core components of the Quality Platform, crafting frameworks and tools for thousands of Canva engineers.
- Deliver on complex, high-stakes technical problems spanning multiple systems and teams, navigating ambiguity and shipping reliable solutions at scale.
- Champion a seamless testing experience by innovating on frameworks and tooling to tackle flakiness and improve developer ergonomics.
- Partner with engineers across Canva, gathering feedback and co-designing platform solutions to enhance testing effectiveness and developer velocity.
- Own the operational health and scalability of critical testing infrastructure, proactively monitoring and debugging systems.
- Streamline and accelerate the testing feedback loop by enhancing CI/CD integrations for fast, reliable, and actionable results.
- Continuously seek opportunities for innovation, experimenting with new technologies to push the boundaries of the Quality Platform.
What We're Looking For
- Strong Software Engineering Craft: Demonstrated experience building robust software systems with knowledge of system design, data structures, and operational best practices.
- Passion for Developer Empowerment: Genuine interest or experience in building developer tools, testing infrastructure, CI/CD systems, or platform-level solutions.
- Understanding of Quality & Testing: Solid grasp of test automation principles across different levels (unit, integration, E2E) and challenges in building reliable test suites.
- Developer-Centric Mindset: Empathy for users (other engineers) and a drive to create intuitive, frictionless developer experiences.
- Pragmatic Problem-Solving: Ability to break down complex technical challenges, identify root causes, and deliver practical, effective solutions.
- Collaborative Communicator: Ability to articulate technical concepts clearly and work effectively within a team, sharing knowledge with stakeholders.
- Drive and Adaptability: Proactive, results-oriented, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and thriving in a fast-paced environment.
