About the Role

Disney is looking for a Software Engineer II to join the API Services team within Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology. In this role, you will build highly available, high-throughput services critical to delivering content to subscribers, focusing on big data and backend engineering.

What You'll Do

  • Be part of a team of big data and backend engineers to deliver high-value projects.
  • Build components of a large-scale data platform for real-time and batch processing.
  • Own features of big data applications to fit evolving business needs.
  • Participate in building the next-generation service platform on cloud-based big data infrastructure.
  • Continuously improve performance, scalability, and availability.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
  • Build automated tests to ensure application reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent training or work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical field.
  • Ability to work with team members and project management to understand requirements and provide technical solutions.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and being part of conversations with discordant views.
  • Intermediate understanding of software development fundamentals and architecture.
  • Experience with Java and Scala, and associated technologies.
  • Experience building and maintaining highly automated systems using tools like Jenkins, Cloud Formation, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Spinnaker.

Nice to Have

  • Interest in or experience with web technologies and web system architecture.
  • Knowledge or experience with AWS products and services (EC2, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, CloudFront, etc.) or other cloud providers.

  • Data Processing: Apache Flink, Spark, Databricks
  • Cloud (AWS): ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, Kinesis, CloudFront, WAF

You will join the API Services team within the Product Engineering organization.

  • Compensation varies by location: New York, NY: $123,000.00 - $165,000.00; San Francisco, CA: $128,700.00 - $172,500.00; Santa Monica, CA: $117,500.00 - $157,500.00.

Work Mode

This is an onsite role located in New York, NY; 2450 Broadway, CA; or Market St, CA.
