Role OverviewWe are seeking an experienced engineer to lead test development for silicon photonic integrated circuits. This position plays a key role in enabling next-generation electro-optic technologies by building robust, scalable test solutions for both wafer and module-level applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deploy custom test hardware and software for photonic devices on commercial ATE platforms such as Advantest 93K and Teradyne Ultra-Flex.
- Collaborate with internal and external design teams to define test specifications, develop probe interface boards, and optimize test programs for high-speed, RF, and optical circuits.
- Lead characterization efforts for S-parameters and optical performance across process corners and product variants.
- Support technology transfer from development to high-volume manufacturing, driving yield improvements and test efficiency.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with environmental, health, safety, and security standards.
Required Qualifications
- Master of Science in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in developing test solutions for high-speed, mmWave, or electro-optic integrated circuits.
- Proven background in S-parameter and optical measurement techniques.
- Experience designing high-speed PCBs with attention to signal integrity, impedance matching, and low-noise layout.
- Direct design experience with photonic components such as modulators, Lidar systems, or multiplexing circuits.
- Working knowledge of electromagnetic simulation tools and their application in test development.
- Strong programming skills in Linux environments using object-oriented principles.
- Familiarity with silicon photonics and high-frequency circuit behavior.
- Excellent debugging abilities and a methodical approach to problem solving.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document complex technical workflows.
- Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and collaborative mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in Physics or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience working in cleanroom environments with photonic devices.
- Proficiency in shell scripting and high-level languages including Python, Perl, Matlab, or R for test automation and data analysis.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to engineering teams and clients.
- A naturally curious mindset with a drive to explore novel solutions and push technological boundaries.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role based in Malta, NY, offering some flexibility for remote work. The position requires occasional on-site presence for lab activities and team collaboration.
