Responsibilities
- Deliver legal guidance on international trade issues including export controls, customs regulations, tariffs, sanctions, and related legal frameworks affecting cross-border movement of regulated goods.
- Serve as the primary legal authority on matters involving tariff classifications, country of origin determinations, customs valuation, and eligibility for tariff preference programs.
- Assist in building, refining, and executing the company’s global trade compliance initiatives.
- Supervise external legal representatives in proceedings involving U.S. Customs and Border Protection and foreign regulatory bodies.
- Represent the organization in legal forums, administrative hearings, and regulatory interactions to safeguard institutional interests.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of global training on international trade laws impacting business strategies and operations.
- Evaluate and authorize trade-related legal disclosures to proactively identify and reduce potential legal exposure.
- Monitor updates in legislation and legal publications; inform leadership of developments affecting the business.
- Draft and review legal agreements, contracts, and correspondence related to trade, finance, commercial transactions, and corporate activities such as acquisitions and leases.
- Interpret court decisions, statutes, and regulatory proposals to produce legal analyses on operational impact.
- Prepare documentation and briefs for outside counsel.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of internal policies and support their implementation across the organization.
