Shape the future of synthetic monitoring by designing and maintaining scalable backend systems that power a globally distributed service running billions of synthetic tests each month. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll play a central role in evolving a multi-tenant architecture that delivers reliability and performance across cloud environments.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain robust backend services used across multiple cloud products
- Collaborate with product, design, and documentation teams to deliver features that meet real user needs
- Guide technical strategy and influence long-term architecture decisions
- Support observability solutions by contributing to metrics, logging, and tracing ecosystems
- Represent the engineering team in open-source communities and technical forums
- Work cross-functionally with Sales, Product, and Support to refine the end-to-end product experience
- Participate in on-call rotations with a follow-the-sun model to ensure system reliability
- Contribute to open-source projects beyond your immediate team’s scope
What We’re Looking For
- 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least one major programming language
- Willingness to work in Go; experience with Python, Java, .NET, or Rust is transferable
- Proven experience managing Kubernetes in production environments
- Solid background in cloud-native development and operating large-scale distributed systems
- Strong grasp of writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code
- Familiarity with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, or OpenTelemetry
- Track record of leading technical initiatives and mentoring other engineers
- Experience driving projects from concept to production with minimal oversight
- Skilled in debugging complex systems and resolving production incidents
- Experience in on-call support and incident response
Nice to Have
- Background in building observability or monitoring backends
- Contributions to open-source projects with a history of community engagement
- Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure internals across major providers
- Knowledge of metrics pipelines, alerting logic, and data visualization principles
Technology Environment
You’ll work with Go, Kubernetes, and a suite of observability tools including Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry, Mimir, and Tempo. The platform runs across AWS, GCP, and Azure, with a strong emphasis on scalability and resilience.
