As a Senior Backend Engineer focused on data, you will lead the design and development of backend systems that power our telehealth platform. Your work will center on building reliable, scalable data pipelines and ensuring efficient data modeling to support both product features and internal operations.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain backend services and APIs that serve real-time and batch data needs
- Design, implement, and monitor data ingestion and transformation workflows
- Structure data models to support analytics, experimentation, and operational tooling
- Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, and architectural improvements
- Collaborate with product, growth, and operations teams to solve complex data challenges
- Enhance system observability, logging, and data integrity across services
- Contribute to architectural decisions as the platform scales in usage and complexity
What We're Looking For
- At least 5 years of backend engineering experience using Node.js or Python, with a track record of owning production systems
- Proven experience building and maintaining ETL pipelines in production environments
- Strong SQL skills and deep familiarity with relational databases—Postgres experience is highly preferred
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and scalable architecture
- Hands-on experience with Claude Code
- Background in fast-moving startups where ownership and initiative are essential
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with event-driven architectures or streaming platforms like Kafka or Pub/Sub
- Exposure to tools such as Airflow, dbt, or components of the modern data stack
- Worked closely with analytics, growth, or experimentation teams
- Cloud experience on AWS
- Background in data-intensive applications
