As a School Finance Manager, you will serve as an outsourced CFO for a portfolio of 5 to 8 independent or private schools, delivering strategic financial guidance and operational support. You'll partner directly with school leadership and boards to shape financial planning, develop long-term strategies, and ensure sustainable fiscal health aligned with institutional goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee financial planning, budget development, and forecasting for each school in your portfolio, ensuring alignment with both institutional priorities and broader commitments to equity.
- Present financial strategies and insights during board and finance committee meetings, translating complex data into clear, actionable guidance for decision-makers.
- Diagnose financial challenges and lead solutions, either independently or by coordinating with internal EdOps specialists.
- Support and guide School Finance Analysts and Specialists, helping refine processes and build capacity within the team.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of EdOps’s financial products through research, feedback, and innovation initiatives.
Qualifications
- Proven experience leading financial operations in an independent or private school setting, or serving as a key member of a school leadership team.
- Strong accounting foundation, with the ability to interpret financial statements and navigate accounting software confidently.
- Intermediate proficiency in Excel, including experience with functions such as VLOOKUP and SUMIFS.
- Skilled in quantitative analysis, strategic problem-solving, and communicating financial concepts clearly to audiences with varying levels of financial knowledge.
- Comfort engaging with senior school leaders, asking critical questions, and offering informed perspectives.
- Excellent organizational abilities and time management, with a track record of managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Familiarity with digital collaboration tools such as Google Workspace.
- Typically 10–15 years of professional or post-secondary experience.
Preferred Experience
- Experience managing or leading external audit processes.
