International Rescue Committee (IRC) is hiring a Finance LEAD

About the Role

What You'll Do

Lead financial oversight for a large-scale, multi-year programme operating across fragile and conflict-affected regions. As a senior member of the management team, you will shape financial systems, policies, and reporting frameworks to ensure compliance with donor and organisational standards. You will direct the preparation of financial plans, forecasts, and accrual reports, and deliver timely expenditure analysis to inform decision-making.

Ensure robust financial controls across direct implementation and downstream partners, including sub-award management, budget support, and capacity strengthening. You will lead financial due diligence, enforce compliance standards, and verify reporting accuracy. Oversee audit coordination, implement corrective actions, and strengthen internal controls with a focus on fraud and fiduciary risk mitigation.

Manage a team of finance and programme support staff, guiding performance, development, and recruitment. You will lead training initiatives to improve expenditure tracking and forecasting, and support cash programming through strong financial oversight of delivery mechanisms.

Requirements

  • University degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or commerce, plus a recognised professional accounting qualification such as CPA, or a master’s degree in accounting
  • At least 10 years of experience in financial or compliance roles managing international donor grants, particularly FCDO-funded projects in complex, high-risk environments
  • Proven experience with multi-million-pound, multi-year grants, including budgeting, financial reporting, and sub-award management across multiple locations
  • Strong understanding of accounting standards, financial controls, and donor compliance, especially FCDO regulations on expenditure, forecasting, and fiduciary risk
  • Proficiency in computerised accounting systems, spreadsheets, and database tools
  • Experience managing staff performance, leading training, and implementing development plans
  • Fluency in English required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience applying adaptive management and evidence-based approaches in programme delivery
  • Background in financial oversight of cash transfer programming and associated controls
  • Prior work in South Sudan or similar contexts

Benefits

Work with a global humanitarian organisation dedicated to restoring health, safety, education, and economic wellbeing in crisis-affected communities. You will contribute to lasting change through multi-sectoral programming in one of the most challenging and impactful environments. The role offers a commitment to integrity, accountability, and inclusion, with access to safeguarding and ethical reporting systems. You will join a diverse team focused on critical reflection, power sharing, and principled action.
