Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Project Assistant to support the delivery of community-driven development initiatives in Kyerwa, Tanzania. Reporting to the Project Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring that field activities align with approved project frameworks and government collaboration efforts. The role demands frequent travel and hands-on engagement with local leaders and implementation teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out at least four field visits weekly to monitor, verify, and support on-the-ground implementation.
- Ensure work plans of government officials and field monitors reflect project design and agreed standards.
- Review field reports, action plans, and schedules for completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Coach and mentor field-based champions, government extension workers, and technical teams.
- Identify risks in project execution and recommend practical solutions.
- Support training, coaching, and follow-up activities in coordination with local authorities.
- Verify compliance with technical protocols and safeguarding policies.
- Act as first point of contact for challenges arising in government-led implementation clusters.
- Facilitate weekly cluster review meetings and deliver structured feedback.
- Assist in preparing inputs for donor and internal reporting cycles.
- Support the implementation of memoranda of understanding and clarify roles at district and ward levels.
- Provide day-to-day guidance to local officials and contribute to workload planning.
- Participate in reflection sessions and document lessons learned.
- Perform administrative tasks as assigned by the Project Officer.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Community Development, Social Work, Project Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of three years of experience in community-level programming or project coordination.
- Proven ability to work effectively with local government and community structures.
- Fluency in spoken and written English and Kiswahili; knowledge of Kinyambo or Kihaya is an asset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation and reporting.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal abilities, with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-changing rural environments.
- Willingness to travel extensively—up to 80% of time—in remote, high-terrain areas.
- Valid motorbike riding capability in rural settings is required.
- Demonstrated integrity, reliability, and adaptability in challenging field conditions.
Work Environment
