Graphcore is hiring a Principal Engineer, Power Engineering

About the Role

Principal Engineer, Power Engineering will play a pivotal role in designing and optimizing end-to-end power delivery architectures for high-performance AI systems. This position bridges system-level requirements with component-level innovation, driving solutions from concept through validation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture and planning of power delivery systems, spanning from utility input to on-chip regulation.
  • Define and evolve the long-term power technology roadmap, aligning internal system needs with external vendor development cycles.
  • Specify and evaluate rack-level power hardware and firmware, with emphasis on resilience, efficiency, and fault tolerance.
  • Develop and implement data center power policies, including oversubscription strategies, job scheduling based on power availability, and real-time monitoring of power quality.
  • Ensure IT infrastructure remains stable during grid fluctuations and operates as a responsible participant in shared power environments.
  • Apply expertise in voltage regulation technologies—including VRM, TLDR, and POL—to improve system efficiency and guide next-generation designs.
  • Collaborate with manufacturers and engineering partners to establish testing protocols and validate power subsystems.
  • Build and test prototypes to explore novel power delivery concepts and troubleshoot complex hardware-firmware interactions.
  • Ensure all designs meet applicable industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on power systems. Proven experience in power architecture, hardware development, and system integration is essential. Expertise in rack-level infrastructure and strong analytical, communication, and teamwork abilities are required. Experience in AI computing or data center environments is highly valued, as is direct engagement with stakeholders during technical planning.

Work Environment

This hybrid role supports remote work within the U.S., with preferred locations in Austin and San Jose. The team operates in a fast-moving, collaborative setting that values technical depth and inclusive problem-solving. Flexible interview arrangements are available to support accessibility and accommodate individual needs.

Inclusion and Benefits

We are committed to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. All qualified applicants will receive consideration without regard to background, identity, or ability. The company offers a competitive salary, comprehensive benefits, and equity in a supportive, forward-thinking environment.
