Lead the evolution of scalable data systems in a fast-moving environment where ownership and impact matter. As a Principal Engineer - Data Infrastructure, you'll be responsible for the architecture, reliability, and performance of core data platforms including MySQL, Postgres, and Redshift. Your work will ensure that data remains consistent, accessible, and optimized across high-throughput services.
What You'll Do
- Take full ownership of database and data warehouse systems, defining and meeting KPIs, SLAs, and operational excellence standards.
- Drive performance improvements in query execution, indexing strategies, and schema design across production workloads.
- Develop automation and tooling to streamline upgrades, migrations, and ongoing maintenance of data infrastructure.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams to ensure robust, efficient queries and reliable schema patterns are implemented in production.
- Guide the adoption of new technologies and frameworks that support scalable data processing, including CDC, ETL/ELT pipelines, and distributed storage solutions.
- Support data engineers and analysts in optimizing warehouse performance, reducing latency, and managing costs effectively.
- Explore and integrate modern data stack components such as lakehouse architectures, streaming platforms, and orchestration tools to meet growing data demands.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum of 12 years in data engineering, database administration, or systems reliability roles with proven success scaling critical data systems.
- Deep technical command of relational databases (MySQL, Postgres), data warehouses (Redshift or equivalent), and replication technologies.
- Proficiency in SQL, data modeling, and distributed system design patterns.
- Hands-on experience with ETL/ELT frameworks such as DBT, AWS DMS, or similar tools.
- Strong scripting ability in Python, Golang, or related languages for building infrastructure tooling.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS), containerization (Kubernetes), and CI/CD workflows.
- Familiarity with streaming technologies (Kafka, Kinesis, Flink) and orchestration systems (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect) is highly valued.
- Background in fintech or regulated, high-growth environments is a plus.
- Passion for leveraging AI tools to enhance productivity and engineering outcomes.
Environment and Expectations
This role operates in a culture defined by high standards, direct communication, and a bias for action. You’ll be expected to challenge assumptions, commit to decisions, and persist through technical challenges. The organization values technical depth, clear documentation, and collaboration across teams to deliver resilient systems at scale.
