University of Chicago is hiring a Post-Award Research Specialist

About the Role

The position oversees post-award activities for research grants, handling financial and regulatory aspects, coordinating with principal investigators, and ensuring adherence to sponsor and institutional guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor project budgets and expenditures to ensure alignment with approved funding
  • Prepare and submit required financial reports to sponsors
  • Assist in the interpretation of award terms and conditions
  • Track project milestones and deliverables
  • Support grant closeout procedures and final reporting
  • Collaborate with research teams on budget modifications
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations
  • Manage no-cost extensions and other post-award changes
  • Liaise with sponsored projects office and accounting units
  • Maintain accurate records of award documentation
  • Provide guidance on allowable costs and cost sharing
  • Track funding restrictions and special conditions
  • Facilitate internal audits and sponsor inquiries
  • Assist in resolving billing and payment issues
  • Monitor effort reporting requirements
  • Coordinate with compliance offices for regulatory oversight
  • Support multi-year and multi-institutional awards
  • Interpret sponsor policies and assist with risk mitigation
  • Train research staff on post-award procedures
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of funding agency requirements

Compensation

Work Arrangement

On-site with limited remote flexibility

Part of the research administration team supporting faculty and principal investigators across multiple departments
