Canonical is hiring a MLOps Field Engineer

About the Role

Shape enterprise AI adoption by designing and deploying machine learning infrastructure for organizations worldwide. In this role, you’ll bridge technical expertise with business insight to guide clients in adopting open source AI/ML platforms across public and private cloud environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Architect end-to-end ML systems tailored to customer needs, from data pipelines to model deployment
  • Work across the full Linux stack to optimize performance, security, and scalability
  • Design cloud-native solutions using Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, and OpenStack
  • Deliver technical demonstrations of AI/ML capabilities and Ubuntu-based enterprise solutions
  • Translate customer requirements into actionable product feedback for engineering teams
  • Collaborate with sales to support technical evaluations and solution positioning
  • Travel globally up to 30% for customer engagements, industry events, and team gatherings

Who You Are

You’re a technically grounded engineer with a passion for open source and scalable infrastructure. You thrive when solving complex problems across distributed systems and enjoy guiding teams through technical transformation.

  • Hold a technical degree or have pursued an alternative path with strong outcomes
  • Have hands-on experience deploying MLOps, data engineering, or big data platforms
  • Are proficient in Python and familiar with R or Rust
  • Understand Linux deeply, especially Ubuntu or Debian environments
  • Know cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Communicate clearly and confidently in English, both in writing and presentations
  • Are self-driven, curious, and committed to continuous learning
  • Work effectively in diverse, global teams with cultural sensitivity and professionalism
