LILT is hiring an In-Game Localization Specialists - French (France) - Remote

Join a global network of language professionals shaping the future of interactive storytelling. We’re seeking native-level French (France) linguists with deep experience in video game localization to ensure in-game content resonates authentically with regional audiences. As an independent contractor, you’ll work flexibly from any location, contributing to immersive gaming experiences through precise adaptation of text, dialogue, and interface elements.

What You’ll Do

  • Translate and adapt in-game text, user interface, mission scripts, NPC dialogue, and cutscene subtitles while preserving original intent and tone.
  • Ensure cultural appropriateness and linguistic accuracy for French-speaking players in France.
  • Review and refine localized content to maintain consistency with established style guides and terminology databases.
  • Collaborate with QA teams to identify and correct language-related bugs within game builds.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of localization resources, including glossaries and style standards.
  • Provide insights into improving translation workflows and tooling for better efficiency and quality.

What We’re Looking For

  • Native or near-native fluency in French (France), with strong command of English.
  • A degree in translation, linguistics, or a related field, OR equivalent professional experience in translation (minimum 5 years full-time, or 2 years plus relevant degree).
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience localizing video game content.
  • Proven expertise in transcreating narrative material, especially crime-themed fiction within gaming contexts.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with early 20th-century organized crime terminology, particularly the Sicilian Mafia, including period-specific jargon for weapons, vehicles, and hierarchy.
  • Understanding of game engines and standard localization pipelines.
  • Practical knowledge of structured data formats such as XML and JSON is a plus.
