Lead quality assurance efforts by conducting chemical analysis of moisture, water activity, and fat content in product samples to verify compliance with internal and regulatory standards. Oversee daily operations of the quality laboratory and ensure accurate, consistent testing across all production shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, train, and evaluate QA personnel, ensuring proper staffing, performance management, and adherence to safety and quality protocols
- Manage laboratory functions including chemical testing, data recording, and equipment maintenance for in-process and finished goods
- Ensure compliance with federal regulations including 9 CFR Parts 416 and 417 related to sanitation and HACCP systems
- Conduct internal audits, maintain quality records, and support SQF certification requirements through documentation and team coordination
- Investigate consumer complaints, RTV items, and defective materials, implementing corrective actions and follow-up procedures
- Monitor net weight controls, specification accuracy, and AQL standards for raw materials and final products
- Support new product development by assisting with testing protocols and scale-up validation
- Enforce GMPs, SSOPs, and prerequisite programs while ensuring team compliance with PPE, OSHA, and food safety guidelines
- Compile, store, and retrieve production and quality data for reporting and continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with remote teams and regulatory representatives, including USDA/FSIS, to resolve compliance matters promptly
- Participate in Lean manufacturing practices, emphasizing workplace safety, efficiency, and team engagement
- Administer timekeeping, performance reviews, coaching, and disciplinary actions in alignment with company policies
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Must demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment. Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and basic data analysis is essential. Candidates must be able to follow complex instructions, supervise team members effectively, and communicate clearly across departments. Prior experience in food manufacturing, quality systems, or regulatory compliance is highly valued.
