As a Forward Deployed Software Engineer, you will work directly within operational settings to design, deploy, and refine software systems that support high-priority missions. Your work will span the full development lifecycle—from initial concept to production deployment—across varied technical environments, often under tight timelines and evolving requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement technical solutions from the ground up, moving quickly from prototype to production while maintaining robustness and security.
- Adapt to new tools and domains swiftly, whether integrating AI capabilities, configuring cloud infrastructure, or optimizing data workflows.
- Partner closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders to clarify objectives, define requirements, and align engineering efforts with mission outcomes.
- Take full ownership of projects, guiding them through planning, architecture, coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing support in live environments.
- Respond rapidly to critical field issues by diagnosing root causes, coordinating remote teams, and implementing fixes under pressure.
- Lead post-incident reviews within 48 hours, sharing insights across teams to improve resilience and prevent recurrence.
- Proactively identify risks to timelines, including approval delays or procedural bottlenecks, and work creatively to overcome them.
- Maintain clear documentation in Notion, track progress in Jira, and lead knowledge transfer sessions to ensure continuity and team alignment.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong foundation in software engineering, with hands-on experience in full-stack or backend development using languages such as Python or NodeJS and databases like Postgres or SQL.
- Proven ability to master new technologies quickly—whether distributed systems, AI/ML frameworks, or secure government platforms.
- Track record of delivering results in uncertain or fast-changing environments, with a focus on ownership, speed, and measurable impact.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to build trust with stakeholders in high-stakes settings.
- Comfort operating across the stack, from debugging pipelines to tuning models to configuring infrastructure.
- A strong motivation to solve difficult problems that affect national security and global financial systems.
- An active TS/SCI clearance is required for this role.
Environment & Expectations
This is a hybrid role with hubs in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Washington D.C., London, and Singapore, supporting a distributed-first culture. You’ll operate in a fast-moving environment where solutions are fielded in days, not months. Success depends on urgency, adaptability, and clear communication. AI fluency is expected—top performers use AI to enhance problem-solving, streamline workflows, and improve output quality. We value individuals who treat plans as experiments, iterate quickly, and consistently deliver mission impact.
