As the Founding Product Engineer, you'll play a central role in advancing a SaaS platform designed for law enforcement agencies, transitioning it from minimum viable product to full production. Working side-by-side with the founder, you'll help finalize core functionality, integrate real-world feedback from officers, command staff, and records personnel, and ensure the system meets the demands of public safety operations.
What You’ll Do
- Partner with leadership to refine the product roadmap and align technical execution with user needs.
- Gather insights from law enforcement stakeholders and translate them into actionable features and technical specifications.
- Design and implement full-stack features using modern JavaScript and TypeScript tooling.
- Architect secure, multi-tenant database systems that support agency-level data isolation and compliance.
- Build reliable integrations with third-party services such as messaging platforms, authentication systems, and government data sources.
- Guide decisions around deployment, hosting, and long-term scalability while maintaining agility.
- Balance rapid iteration with sustainable engineering practices, ensuring the platform can grow securely and efficiently.
What We’re Looking For
You have strong full-stack development experience and a proven ability to turn user needs into functional systems. You’re comfortable working independently in a fast-moving environment and can shift between coding, planning, and product thinking as needed.
- Proficiency with JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, and backend frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
- Solid understanding of API design, authentication flows, and session management.
- Ability to document user stories, define technical tasks, and prioritize work effectively.
- A problem-solving mindset with adaptability in early-stage product development.
Nice to Have
- Background in government technology, public safety software, or CJIS-compliant systems.
- Experience owning product features or contributing to product strategy.
Why This Role Matters
The platform is already 50% developed, with a clear vision and direction. You won’t be starting from zero—you’ll be improving a working system with real users, shaping both its technical foundation and long-term impact. As an early hire, you’ll have meaningful ownership and influence over product and architecture decisions.
Work is remote-friendly, with a preference for candidates near Austin, TX. The role offers equity potential and the opportunity to build tools that strengthen trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
