Responsibilities

  • Confirm that financial controls align with accounting principles, budgetary standards, and institutional guidelines.
  • Establish proper approval workflows, roles, and authorization levels according to access and control requirements.
  • Administer budgets for all funding sources, including research grants, indirect costs, and service fees.
  • Support the creation and refinement of annual and project-based budgets.
  • Oversee the authorization of financial records, spending activities, procurement cards, travel expenses, and budget execution.
  • Ensure adherence to laboratory, university, and federal financial regulations and procedural requirements.
  • Offer expert guidance on effective budget administration, internal controls, and compliance protocols.
  • Deliver training sessions to laboratory staff on financial policies and processes as necessary.
  • Generate financial reports analyzing past and current trends, and project future funding needs, base funding, overhead usage, and service center performance.
  • Manage and monitor sponsored research funding portfolios, including preparing Estimate to Complete (ETC) budget analyses.
