The Electrical Design Engineer will support nuclear and industrial power initiatives by developing safe, cost-effective, and innovative electrical systems. This position involves conducting detailed power system studies, creating electrical designs, and working closely with engineering teams and clients to ensure successful project execution.
Responsibilities
- Perform and evaluate AC/DC system calculations using ETAP, covering load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, arc-flash, motor starting, protection, and relay coordination.
- Develop project scoping documents and conduct constructability assessments.
- Create electrical drawings such as single-line, three-line, schematic, and wiring diagrams.
- Design and evaluate lighting, communication, and security systems.
- Develop and review technical specifications for electrical equipment.
- Support bid evaluations and manage vendor question-and-answer processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams on design integration.
- Interact with clients and field implementation teams to align design with execution.
- Travel to client or vendor facilities and plant locations for design reviews and construction coordination.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years of experience in electrical system design for industrial or nuclear power plant environments.
- Proven ability to select appropriate electrical equipment and materials.
- Experience preparing engineering design packages, technical calculations, and specifications.
- Proficiency in designing low and medium voltage power distribution systems, including transformers, generators, motors, and relays.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail in design and documentation.
- Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one.

Compensation
$123,000/yr - $129,000/yr. Actual compensation may vary based on education, experience, skills, and location.
Work Arrangement
Onsite in Lenexa, KS, or Oak Ridge, TN. Work is conducted during standard business hours, with occasional overtime and weekend work as needed.
