The University of Texas at Austin is hiring a Desktop Support Specialist

About the Role

This role involves delivering hands-on technical support for desktop computers, software, and peripheral devices, primarily serving staff and faculty. The specialist will diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues, deploy systems, and assist with technology lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to service requests related to desktop computing problems
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware and software malfunctions
  • Install, configure, and maintain desktop and laptop computers
  • Support and manage peripheral devices including printers and scanners
  • Assist with the deployment of new technology across departments
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment and support activities
  • Troubleshoot operating system and application issues
  • Perform regular system updates and security patches
  • Provide training and guidance to end users on standard software
  • Collaborate with IT teams to escalate complex technical issues
  • Support remote access and connectivity solutions
  • Ensure compliance with institutional technology policies
  • Assist in managing software licenses and inventory
  • Participate in technology refresh cycles and equipment disposal
  • Configure and deploy standardized system images
  • Support audiovisual equipment in workspaces and meeting rooms
  • Document technical procedures and support resolutions
  • Respond to after-hours support needs on an as-needed basis
  • Assist with account management and access permissions
  • Evaluate new tools and technologies for usability and integration
  • Maintain awareness of cybersecurity best practices
  • Support cloud-based applications and services
  • Assist users with data backup and recovery processes
  • Ensure accessibility standards are met in technology deployment
  • Work with vendors for warranty and repair services

Compensation
