Spotify is hiring a Data Engineer - Music

About the Role

As a Data Engineer on the music rights team, you'll design and manage data systems that support the accurate tracking and management of music rights across a global platform. Your work will directly enable transparency and efficiency in how rights data is processed, matched, and reported across services.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and maintain scalable batch and streaming data pipelines that power core functionality in the rights management platform
  • Process content segments, integrate rights metadata, and generate match data that drives product decisions
  • Design and refine analytics models to measure system performance, rightsholder engagement, and business impact
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and insights teams to define key metrics and deliver actionable data
  • Ensure reliable data exports between backend systems and the data warehouse for downstream use
  • Implement data validation, monitoring, and alerting to uphold high standards of data integrity
  • Support stakeholders in licensing, finance, and content by delivering robust technical solutions
  • Engage in product development discussions with engineers, researchers, and domain experts
  • Help foster a culture of learning through initiatives like hack days and internal knowledge sharing

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and data modeling, with experience in cloud data warehouse design
  • Hands-on experience with large-scale data pipeline frameworks such as Spark, Apache Beam, or Scio
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms like BigQuery or Snowflake
  • Experience using dbt for analytics engineering and layered data transformations
  • Working knowledge of orchestration tools including Airflow or Flyte
  • Ability to write and maintain production code in Python, Scala, or Java
  • Proven track record in implementing data quality checks and pipeline monitoring
  • End-to-end ownership of data solutions, from requirements to deployment and validation
  • Clear communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Curiosity for complex domains like content rights, licensing, and multi-region data systems

Environment & Culture

This role operates in a hybrid model with team presences in London and Stockholm. While you have flexibility in where you work, some in-person collaboration is expected. The team values shared learning, technical excellence, and cross-functional ideation. Tools used include Scio, Spark, BigQuery, dbt, Flyte, and Airflow, with coding primarily in Scala, Python, and Java.
