Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and debug programmable logic controllers, human-machine interfaces, and supervisory control systems, with preference for Allen-Bradley and Siemens platforms.
- Create and sustain control logic, process sequencing, interlock mechanisms, alarm systems, and safety-critical functions.
- Maximize uptime and efficiency of automated manufacturing lines through proactive monitoring and optimization.
- Ensure reliable operation and availability of robotic equipment and associated control systems.
- Maintain and enhance performance of automated guided vehicles, electric guided vehicles, and material transport systems.
- Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex automation failures to reduce production interruptions.
- Manage software versioning, program backups, and change control procedures for all automation code.
- Support or direct the design, integration, and modification of robotic cells, including tooling and safety interfaces.
- Maintain and fine-tune motion control components, servo mechanisms, drives, and machine vision setups.
- Identify and execute automation upgrades to replace manual operations, improving safety, quality, and throughput.
- Assist in developing and implementing preventive maintenance strategies for automation systems, robots, and vehicle fleets.
- Define maintenance tasks, intervals, spare parts requirements, and technical specifications in the CMMS for automation assets.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and support urgent troubleshooting efforts.
- Participate in or lead formal failure investigations for automation-related incidents.
- Drive improvements in key performance indicators such as mean time between failures, mean time to failure, overall equipment effectiveness, and unplanned downtime.
- Support or manage capital expenditure projects related to automation, including defining project scope.
- Support or manage capital expenditure projects related to automation, including technical assessments.
- Support or manage capital expenditure projects related to automation, including installation, commissioning, and validation phases.
- Assist in factory and site acceptance testing and oversee contractor activities during system integration.
- Identify and deploy Industry 4.0 and automation enhancements in alignment with Lean manufacturing principles.
- Establish consistent standards for automation hardware, software, and engineering practices across the facility.
- Ensure all automation systems adhere to OSHA safety regulations.
- Ensure compliance with corporate-wide automation and engineering standards.
- Verify that all systems meet electrical safety and machinery safety requirements.
- Support lockout-tagout procedures, machine guarding protocols, and safety PLC deployments.
