We are looking for a Water Resource Engineer to lead the planning, design, and implementation of freshwater restoration initiatives throughout Florida and surrounding regions. This position plays a central role in managing complex projects from concept through construction, working closely with ecologists, hydrologists, and landscape architects to develop sustainable water solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of engineering analyses, restoration designs, permitting documents, and construction specifications for freshwater systems
- Oversee and participate in field data collection, including topographic and hydrologic surveys, to inform project planning and modeling
- Collaborate with technical specialists to advance integrated project strategies and deliver effective, science-based outcomes
- Review work produced by junior engineers, offering guidance and feedback to support professional growth
- Prepare cost estimates, technical reports, and bid packages while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations
- Conduct field inspections of water control structures and assess performance in riverine, tidal, and freshwater environments
- Present technical findings to clients, agencies, and stakeholders during meetings, reviews, and proposal discussions
- Manage project timelines and budgets, ensuring on-time and on-scope delivery
- Support proposal development by contributing to scopes of work, budgets, and technical narratives
- Travel as needed to project sites, team meetings, and professional events across the Southeast
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering and be a licensed Professional Engineer. A minimum of five years of experience in freshwater restoration design—particularly in Florida or the Southeast—is required. Familiarity with stormwater modeling tools such as HEC-RAS, SWMM, or TRUST is essential, as is proficiency in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and related design platforms.
The ideal candidate enjoys fieldwork, including extended walks over uneven terrain and lifting up to 50 pounds. You should be comfortable working outdoors in varied weather conditions and capable of independent work while maintaining strong team collaboration.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary for preparing reports, leading meetings, and mentoring others. Experience mentoring junior staff, managing multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to proposal development is highly valued.
Work Environment
This role is based in Florida, with primary offices in Tampa and Orlando. Hybrid remote work may be permitted after initial training and with demonstrated performance. Regular fieldwork and occasional travel to project sites and conferences are expected.
