Position Overview

As Vice President, Ophthalmology Medical Affairs, you will direct worldwide medical strategy for complement-driven ophthalmic conditions. You will play a central role in advancing the scientific and medical vision across the ophthalmology pipeline, working closely with internal teams and external experts to support clinical development and commercial readiness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver medical and scientific leadership in shaping lifecycle planning, product launch strategies, and medical positioning within the ophthalmology therapeutic area.
  • Develop and execute the global medical affairs strategy, overseeing all components including medical communications, advisory boards, and educational initiatives.
  • Lead and expand the Medical Science Liaison team’s outreach to clinicians, academic institutions, and key opinion leaders to foster scientific exchange.
  • Collaborate with clinical, regulatory, safety, and commercial functions to align medical strategy with organizational goals.
  • Strengthen engagement with patient advocacy organizations and integrate patient insights into trial design and market planning.
  • Represent the organization at major scientific meetings, investigator gatherings, and advisory panels by sharing clinical data and therapeutic insights.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and ethical guidelines in all interactions with healthcare professionals and external partners.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the scientific landscape, emerging therapies, and evolving standards of care in ophthalmology.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in medical affairs within the biopharmaceutical industry, with a focus on ophthalmology.
  • Proven track record in leading global medical strategies and successful product launches.
  • Established network of relationships with clinicians, researchers, and key stakeholders in ophthalmology.
  • Experience managing budgets, teams, and cross-functional initiatives in a matrix environment.
  • Strong understanding of Good Clinical Practice, regulatory requirements, and compliance frameworks.
  • Advanced degree (MD, PhD, or PharmD) preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex clinical data clearly in both written and verbal formats.
  • Commitment to integrating patient perspectives into medical planning and development.

Work Environment

This role operates in a hybrid model, based in the San Francisco Bay Area with flexibility for remote work. The organization supports adaptable schedules to promote sustainable work-life integration.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $354,200 to $377,000, with additional compensation through equity participation and an employee stock purchase plan.
