SkySpecs is hiring an UAS Pilot

About the Role

Position Overview

Join an operations team dedicated to advancing drone-based infrastructure inspection by piloting unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for wind turbine blade assessments across the United States. This field-intensive role demands precision, technical aptitude, and consistent adherence to safety protocols in remote and often demanding environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy to onshore wind sites—individually or in small groups—to conduct inspections using automated drone technology
  • Maintain regular communication with internal teams and clients regarding project status, logistics, technical issues, and system feedback
  • Perform hands-on operation of UAS equipment under variable weather and terrain conditions
  • Diagnose and resolve technical challenges in the field, including system setup, flight execution, and data capture
  • Transport and manage inspection gear between project locations during extended campaigns
  • Ensure all flight operations comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements
  • Handle battery logistics, including charging, storage, packing, and shipping in accordance with regulations
  • Support the implementation of new operational workflows and emerging technologies in real-world settings

Required Qualifications

  • Valid FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate with current standing
  • Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal (CEFR C1 or TOEFL >100 equivalent)
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • Minimum 100 logged hours as pilot-in-command of UAS, with at least 25 hours on heavy-lift multi-rotor platforms (over 7 kg MTOW)
  • Proven experience in UAS operations, including pre-flight planning, mission execution, and post-flight assessment
  • Ability to travel up to 80% of the time, with deployments typically lasting 2–3 weeks at remote wind farms nationwide
  • Capacity to work long days (10+ hours) in challenging outdoor conditions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Residence in or near Omaha (NE), Des Moines (IA), Sioux Falls (SD), or Texas
  • Extensive hands-on experience flying in manual or attitude mode (e.g., DJI Atti mode), without reliance on GPS stabilization

Work Environment

This position involves frequent travel across the U.S., including the Pacific Northwest, central California, Great Plains, and Northeast regions. Assignments may require solo operations or coordination within small field teams. Work is conducted outdoors with exposure to variable climates and rugged terrain.

Culture & Expectations

The team values practical problem solving, collaboration across disciplines, and a commitment to exceeding expectations. Success in this role requires initiative, adaptability, and a willingness to engage directly with technical and logistical challenges in the field. A customer-focused mindset and a dedication to operational excellence are essential.
