AECOM is hiring a Track Design Responsible Engineer

About the Role

As a Track Design Responsible Engineer, you will lead the development and delivery of permanent way solutions across all design stages, from feasibility through to construction. You will act as the Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE), taking ownership of design outputs and ensuring compliance with client specifications, including Form A, Form B, and for-construction submissions.

What You'll Do

You will manage the technical quality of track design deliverables, conducting reviews and checks in line with company procedures. You will coordinate with interdisciplinary teams, attending design interface meetings and presenting track design proposals to ensure integration with signalling, electrical traction equipment (ETE), and overhead line equipment (OLE) systems.

You will be responsible for identifying scope changes and assessing impacts on schedule and budget, clearly communicating risks and opportunities to project stakeholders. You will also support the development of single-discipline work programmes and contribute to multidisciplinary planning efforts.

Collaboration is key—working closely with internal teams, clients, and external partners, you will ensure designs consider constructability, maintenance practices, and industry best practices. You will mentor junior engineers, strengthen team capabilities, and support project leadership in delivering successful outcomes.

  • Direct experience as a Designer and Contractor’s Responsible Engineer on both heavy rail and light rail projects

  • Strong understanding of how signalling, OLE, and ETE systems influence track layout and design
  • Familiarity with depot design and construction methodologies
  • Ability to assess design dependencies, risks, and opportunities, and communicate them effectively
  • Experience managing budgets and resources to meet financial and project goals
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and application of industry best practices

Benefits

  • Opportunity to grow within a global network of infrastructure professionals
  • Work on large-scale, transformative projects in transportation, water, environment, and energy
  • Be part of a unified team focused on delivering sustainable, impactful solutions
