UGL is hiring a Telecommunications Engineer

UGL is looking for a Telecommunications Engineer to join our Engineering team. In this role, you will design, construct, commission, and maintain critical fixed telecommunications infrastructure, primarily for rail projects across Queensland. You'll be responsible for achieving engineering targets, producing comprehensive project documentation, and ensuring design coordination and compliance.

What You'll Do

  • Achieve engineering targets and objectives as defined in the project program.
  • Produce and take responsibility for Project Documentation, including Design Reports, Drawings, Programs, Calculations, Bills of materials, and Quality Plans.
  • Monitor and control design costs within budget and liaise with management on design changes.
  • Ensure all elements of the design are coordinated between all design team members.
  • Plan and conduct all necessary design reviews, verifications, and validations, incorporating outcomes into the design.
  • Provide mentoring to graduate engineers and design engineers where required.
  • Adhere to company policies and other applicable laws, regulations, and standards for the workplace.
  • Undertake ad-hoc projects, initiatives, and tasks as directed by the Line Manager.

What We're Looking For

  • A 4-year degree qualification to Bachelor status in engineering.
  • Experience designing fixed communication networks, structured cabling, fibre optic cabling, and related infrastructure.
  • Experience with data rack and comms cabinet design and layout, cabling design, and the ability to create single line diagrams and schematics per AU standards.
  • Understanding of Queensland Rail and Australian Telecommunications Standards (including AS/CA S008/9).
  • Practical Layer 2 & 3 Cisco configuration and fault-finding experience, plus Cisco IOS Firmware Installation & Update.

Nice to Have

  • RPEQ preferred, or the ability and willingness to become RPEQ as soon as possible.
  • Cisco CCNA/CCNP Certification preferred (minimum Cisco ICND 1/2).
