Responsibilities
- Produce, test, and maintain quality, consistent, contextualized, and technically accurate documentation for our products that help customers and prospects understand how Tailscale solves their existing problems.
- Develop how-to guides, conceptual topics, reference guides, tutorials, and other technical content, and understand when each content type is appropriate.
- Write content for a diverse audience including software developers, infrastructure engineers, security practitioners, and decision-makers, adjusting your content and tone to fit your audience.
- Update and refine existing content to reflect changes to the product and feedback from training sessions, surveys, and collected metrics.
- Build strong relationships as you collaborate with subject-matter experts, product managers, and your team to plan, organize, write, edit, review, and evolve our documentation.
- Collaborate with other content creators to ensure that content you develop aligns with the organization's goals and strategies.
- Engage our community of users through active participation in our community spaces.
- Support engineers and other subject-matter experts who contribute to our documentation, helping them improve their writing through guidance and content reviews.
- Contribute to information architecture and platform improvements to help customers find answers faster.
- Become an expert in Tailscale's features and products, and understand our customer's needs and pain points so you can serve them better.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional technical writing and editing experience creating high-quality, code-heavy product documentation and how-to guides for a diverse technical audience.
- Ability to explain how something works, as well as when and why a customer would need it.
- Technically proficient with hands-on experience with networking or security products, and comfortable in technical conversations with other practitioners, including engineers and product managers.
- Comfortable with Git, GitHub, Markdown, and the command-line interface, and have experience using a docs-as-code publishing workflow.
- Strong editor who can guide others through the outlining and writing process, and can catch inconsistencies in tone, flow, and structure.
- Ability to drive multiple projects from the beginning to completion, and collaborate with other writers, editors, product managers, and subject-matter experts to deliver high-quality work at scale.
- Comfortable integrating the work of others as well as creating your own content, and know how to use multiple tools and sources to deliver quality content.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, and as comfortable receiving and applying feedback as providing it to peers.
- Excited to learn new technologies and grow your skills with a team of professional writers who care about documentation and customer experience.
- Interested in how LLMs and automation can help writers produce and maintain content as products evolve.
