Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of substation engineers and technical experts, fostering professional growth and mentorship.
  • Deliver strategic and technical direction for high-voltage substation design, setting standards, processes, and best practices.
  • Review and authorize engineering outputs including complex designs, reports, proposals, presentations, and drawing sets.
  • Support bid and proposal efforts with technical insight and represent the organization in client discussions as a senior technical authority.
  • Manage project scope, technical execution, and client relationships for substation components within projects.
  • Engage in major infrastructure initiatives such as the Great Grid Upgrade (GGP) programs.
  • Supervise the creation of detailed engineering designs, technical specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Offer expert technical assessments and problem-solving support across teams; contribute to comprehensive project proposals covering timelines, resources, budgets, and objectives.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety, health, environmental, sustainability, and quality regulations.
  • Participate in business and strategic planning to identify growth opportunities across short-, medium-, and long-term horizons.
  • Collaborate with global capability teams to support regional project delivery.
  • Verify that design submissions adhere to applicable codes and standards, including IEEE, IEC, National Grid, and quality benchmarks.
  • Evaluate emerging trends and innovations in substation design and their potential application.

Work Arrangement

Hybrid — UK, Ireland

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Substation engineers and technical specialists.
  • Provide strategic and technical leadership in the design, development, and implementation of HV Substation design, including the establishment of technical standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables such as complex designs, reports, proposals, presentations and drawing packages.
  • Provide technical expertise in bids and proposals and represent the Company in client meetings as a senior member of the Substations team, applying your experience and expertise to a range of exciting and interesting projects.
  • Take responsibility for assigned project scope, technical delivery, and client engagement for Substation scope within projects.
  • You will have the opportunity to be involved in large programmes of work like Great Grid Upgrade (GGP) projects.
  • Oversee the preparation of detailed engineering designs, technical specifications, and construction packages.
  • Provide expert technical evaluations and offer problem-solving solutions to different team members. Contribute to written proposals outlining all project details, including the timeline, resources, budget, objectives, and goals.
  • Ensure your work meets safety, health, environmental, sustainability, and quality standards.
  • Actively participate in business and strategic planning activities to identify opportunities to continue the growth of the business in the short, medium and longer-term.
