About the Role

This role involves managing complex tax compliance and advisory needs for nonprofit organizations, delivering strategic guidance, and ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local tax regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead tax compliance engagements for nonprofit clients including preparation and review of Form 990 and related schedules
  • Advise clients on tax implications related to nonprofit operations, governance, and transactions
  • Ensure accurate reporting under IRS guidelines for tax-exempt entities
  • Manage client relationships and serve as primary point of contact for tax matters
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff on technical tax issues and engagement execution
  • Identify opportunities for tax savings and risk mitigation in nonprofit structures
  • Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for a variety of nonprofit entities
  • Stay current on changes in tax laws affecting the nonprofit sector
  • Collaborate with other service lines to provide integrated solutions
  • Conduct tax research and document findings for complex nonprofit tax issues
  • Support business development through client presentations and proposals
  • Maintain quality control standards on all tax deliverables
  • Coordinate with auditors and other advisors on tax-related matters
  • Assist with tax planning for nonprofit subsidiaries and related entities
  • Provide guidance on unrelated business income tax (UBIT) compliance
  • Oversee tax accounting methods and elections for exempt organizations
  • Review executive compensation for tax compliance
  • Evaluate tax implications of international activities by nonprofits
  • Assist with IRS examinations and responses to notices
  • Develop and deliver educational content for clients on tax topics
  • Ensure adherence to ethical and professional standards in tax practice
  • Participate in internal training programs for tax staff
  • Contribute to process improvements in tax service delivery
  • Support firm initiatives related to nonprofit market growth
  • Maintain strong documentation practices for tax positions
