Responsibilities
- Directing the creation and review of substation physical design documentation, including one-line and three-line diagrams
- Developing general layout plans and sectional views for substations
- Producing detailed electrical design drawings
- Designing grounding system layouts and associated details
- Creating conduit layout plans and specifications
- Preparing control cubicle arrangements, cross-sections, cable tray routing, lighting systems, and grounding integration
- Developing grounding plans and details for low-voltage AC panels
- Designing lightning protection systems
- Creating illumination layouts and technical details
- Leading the development of AC load analysis studies
- Conducting lighting level and coverage assessments
- Performing grounding system performance analyses
- Executing lightning shielding evaluations
- Generating bills of materials aligned with design requirements
- Coordinating with protection and controls, civil/structural, and drafting teams to ensure integrated and accurate outputs
- Supporting client engagement through meetings, technical reviews, and planning discussions
- Participating in field site inspections and constructability assessments
- Integrating vendor-provided data into engineering deliverables
- Applying client-specific design standards and guidelines
- Implementing and verifying adherence to internal QA/QC procedures across all design packages
- Ensuring designs meet applicable industry codes such as IEEE, NESC, and NEC, as well as utility-specific requirements
- Advancing professional expertise and technical capabilities through ongoing learning and development
- Providing technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineers and designers
- Exhibiting leadership behaviors to prepare for potential advancement into supervisory roles
