FERNRIDE is hiring a Staff Systems Engineer - Design Assurance

About the Role

The role involves leading design assurance activities to verify and validate system performance, safety, and compliance throughout the development lifecycle. Candidates will work closely with engineering teams to define requirements, analyze system behavior, and ensure adherence to industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of system verification and validation strategies
  • Define and manage technical requirements for system designs
  • Conduct thorough reviews of system architecture and interface definitions
  • Identify potential design risks and propose mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve integration issues
  • Develop test plans and procedures to assess system compliance
  • Track and report on verification progress and completion status
  • Ensure alignment between hardware, software, and safety engineering teams
  • Support root cause analysis for system-level failures
  • Maintain traceability from requirements to test results
  • Apply systems engineering principles to complex electromechanical systems
  • Evaluate design changes for impact on system performance and safety
  • Participate in design reviews and technical audits
  • Contribute to certification and regulatory compliance documentation
  • Use modeling and simulation tools to predict system behavior
  • Translate operational needs into technical specifications
  • Ensure designs meet functional and non-functional requirements
  • Monitor emerging industry standards relevant to system assurance
  • Drive continuous improvement in verification processes
  • Mentor junior engineers in systems engineering best practices

Nice to Have

  • Master’s degree in engineering or related technical field
  • Experience in autonomous vehicle or robotic systems
  • Knowledge of functional safety standards such as ISO 13849
  • Certification in systems engineering (e.g., CSEP, ESEP)
  • Hands-on experience with real-time operating systems
  • Background in embedded systems development
  • Experience with simulation and testing frameworks
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles in system design
  • Track record of supporting product certification efforts
  • Leadership experience in technical project teams
