Children's National Hospital / Cancer & Immunology Research Center is hiring a Staff Scientist I

Children's National Hospital is looking for a Staff Scientist I to join the Cancer & Immunology Research Center. This is a junior career research position reporting directly to the principal investigator. You will conduct research of significant scientific value in the basic or translational sciences, bringing specialized skills and experience to support the Zickler Prenatal Pediatrics Research department.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct research of significant scientific value in the basic or translational sciences.
  • Perform a variety of laboratory research, education, and management tasks.
  • Train technical staff, students, fellows, and physicians in laboratory procedures.
  • Assist the principal investigator in writing grant applications and publications.
  • Plan, conduct, and manage research projects within federal and institutional regulations under the principal investigator's direction.
  • Conduct research and development of new next-generation sequencing clinical assays.
  • Perform experiments, develop new methods, record observations, and collect, compile, process, and analyze data.
  • Assist with data analysis and management.
  • Use research funds and resources appropriately.
  • Interact collaboratively with team members to accomplish organizational goals.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, sound judgment, and a commitment to a positive work environment.
  • Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors, and co-workers.

What We're Looking For

  • Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) OR Medical Doctor (M.D.) OR a Master's Degree (MS) with 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • At least two to four years of progressive, specialized post-doctoral experience.
  • Proven skills and knowledge in next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, and molecular genetics.
