Samsung Semiconductor is hiring a Staff Engineer, SSD Qualification

About the Role

This position leads the qualification and validation of SSD products, ensuring they meet performance, endurance, and reliability requirements across diverse use cases and environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the testing and validation of SSDs under various operational conditions
  • Develop qualification plans aligned with product specifications and industry standards
  • Analyze test data to assess reliability, endurance, and performance metrics
  • Collaborate with design and firmware teams to resolve technical issues
  • Define failure criteria and recommend corrective actions
  • Support product certification and compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Evaluate new test methodologies and equipment for improved accuracy
  • Maintain detailed documentation of test procedures and results
  • Work with manufacturing teams to ensure consistent product quality
  • Troubleshoot SSD failures and conduct root cause analysis
  • Interface with external partners and vendors on qualification matters
  • Ensure alignment between product development timelines and qualification schedules
  • Monitor emerging storage technologies and industry trends
  • Contribute to process improvements in testing workflows
  • Support customer-specific qualification requirements
  • Participate in design reviews to provide early feedback
  • Validate firmware updates and their impact on drive performance
  • Assess thermal and power characteristics during stress testing
  • Ensure environmental and mechanical robustness of SSDs
  • Drive continuous improvement in test coverage and efficiency

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • Experience with enterprise or data center SSDs
  • Background in semiconductor device physics
  • Familiarity with AI-driven storage workloads
  • Experience with thermal chamber and environmental stress testing
  • Knowledge of security and data integrity features in SSDs
  • Prior work with 3D NAND or advanced node technologies
  • Understanding of error correction and wear leveling algorithms
  • Exposure to ATE or high-volume manufacturing test systems
  • Leadership experience in technical mentorship or project coordination
