BlackSky is hiring a Staff Electro-Optical Payload Engineer

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed plans for integrating, verifying, and testing electro-optical payload systems.
  • Design, build, and manage optical and sensor testing environments.
  • Conduct testing of imaging payloads and assist production teams with satellite integration.
  • Collaborate with engineering, program management, and manufacturing to validate payload performance across all stages.
  • Specify and supervise the creation of ground support equipment and test infrastructure for payloads.
  • Contribute to the design and evaluation of new electro-optical payload concepts and system architectures.
  • Model and assess new sensor technologies, designs, and imaging phenomena to guide research and development.
  • Establish optical performance requirements for emerging payload designs.
  • Guide procurement and integration of payload components with technical oversight.
  • Assist in calibrating and commissioning imaging systems once in orbit.
  • Analyze in-orbit performance data, compare it with pre-launch predictions, and refine testing and modeling methods.
  • Perform additional duties related to electro-optical payload engineering as required.
