Lead the design and implementation of embedded audio systems for next-generation devices, overseeing development from initial concept through to mass production. This role is central to shaping the audio architecture that powers real-time, two-way communication, voice activation, and high-quality audio performance in mission-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the full lifecycle of audio system development, including firmware, software, and signal processing components, ensuring alignment with product requirements and manufacturing readiness.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, and product teams to define technical specifications and system-level audio performance goals.
- Apply advanced modeling techniques to simulate and optimize microphone arrays, speaker enclosures, and acoustic environments using tools such as COMSOL for improved far-field intelligibility.
- Develop and deploy real-time audio algorithms for beamforming, echo cancellation, and noise suppression using MATLAB, Python, or Audio Weaver, and implement them efficiently in C/C++ on embedded platforms.
- Design low-latency, full-duplex communication pipelines with robust echo control and gain management tailored for clear, reliable voice transmission.
- Implement power-efficient audio triggers and voice activity detection systems that enable seamless transitions between standby and active modes.
- Select and integrate high-SNR audio components, including ADCs/DACs and digital interfaces such as I2S, PDM, and TDM, on RTOS or Linux-based systems.
- Lead prototyping, testing, and validation efforts using industry-standard audio measurement systems like Audio Precision, SoundCheck, and HATS to evaluate SNR, THD, and speech transmission index (STI) under real-world conditions.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and data security protocols, including encrypted voice streams and HIPAA-compliant audio handling.
- Conduct design and process FMEAs, support Design for Excellence (DfX) practices, and work with manufacturing partners to ensure reliability, cost efficiency, and scalability.
- Mentor engineering teams, promote technical best practices, and foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
- Stay current with emerging audio technologies and industry trends to maintain a competitive edge in product development.
