KIND (Kids in Need of Defense) is looking for a Staff Attorney to provide high-quality legal representation and advocacy for unaccompanied immigrant children. In this role, you will be part of a mission-driven team dedicated to protecting children’s rights and ensuring access to justice.
What You'll Do
- Provide direct legal representation to clients in immigration removal proceedings and related matters.
- Prepare and litigate cases before the immigration court and other administrative bodies.
- Conduct client interviews, legal research, and prepare filings and applications.
- Develop and implement case strategies in the best interest of the child.
- Collaborate with social services providers and pro bono partners.
What We're Looking For
- Juris Doctor degree and active membership in a state bar.
- 3+ years of experience practicing immigration law, including removal defense.
- Demonstrated experience working with children, survivors of trauma, or vulnerable populations.
- Strong legal research, writing, and courtroom advocacy skills.
- Fluency in English and Spanish.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), asylum, T visa, or U visa cases.
- Familiarity with child welfare systems and family law.
- Prior experience working for a nonprofit legal services organization.
Work Mode
This is a hybrid position based out of our Los Angeles, CA office, with a flexible schedule combining in-office and remote work.
